What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a car part on eBay? A few hundred quid for a set of wheels? A couple of grand on… a nicer set of wheels?
There are people out there turning to eBay for big ticket automotive items, and everyone’s favourite online marketplace that isn’t Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree has released details of the priciest purchases in the UK during 2024 so far.
Keep in mind, this isn’t covering entire cars, this is just parts and accessories. The top 10 list includes engines and gearboxes, a battery, an increasingly ill-advised private number plate and, weirdly, some luggage.

It probably won’t surprise you to learn that most of the list comprises parts from high-end cars. Topping the list is a 5.2-litre V10 engine from an Audi R8, with a modest 38,598 miles on it, which sold for £16,567. We’d love to think that it ended up in something ludicrous, but it probably went into an R8. BOOORING.
At number two we have… some seats. But not just any seats – carbon buckets from a Porsche 991 GT3, which sold for a whopping £13,086. Carbon seats are clearly very popular, as they come in at number three, too. These are from a Cayman GT4 and represent a saving over the GT3 seats, selling for just £11,962. Bargain.
At number four, selling for £8,606 is… a Tesla Model S battery. Not exciting, but potentially very useful if you have A) a broken Tesla or B) an interesting EV conversion.

In a bizarre coincidence, that’s the exact same price that number five sold for. It’s a private number plate – ELON X – which is great if you really, really like your Tesla or you’re a fan of ailing social media platforms.
Next up: luggage. But not just any luggage. This is a very high-end Schedoni luggage set, tailored for the Ferrari 512 TR in the early 1990s. This set sold for £8,518, although there’s another set on eBay as we write this – buy it now for £5,995 and get yourself a chunky discount. Then you’ll feel less bad when it’s all destroyed by baggage handlers at Stansted.
Number eight is an L405 Range Rover V8 engine with 32,537 miles on the clock which went for £7,884, while number nine is another Porsche 991 part – a PDK gearbox from a Turbo S. Just £7,650. That’s a big saving over getting it new from Porsche, but for the same price you could get number 10 on the list, which is an engine AND gearbox from a Merc E63.
